English Folk Verse (c.1870)
The Fifth of November
The fifth of November,
The Gunpowder treason and plot;
I know of no reason
Why the Gunpowder treason
Should ever be forgot!
Guy Fawkes and his companions
Did the scheme contrive,
To blow the King and Parliament
All up alive.
Threescore barrels, laid below,
To prove old England’s overthrow.
But, by God’s providence, him they catch,
With a dark lantern, lighting a match!
A stick and a stake
For King James’s sake!
If you won’t give me one,
I’ll take two,
The better for me,
And the worse for you.
A rope, a rope, to hang the Pope,
A penn’orth of cheese to choke him,
A pint of beer to wash it down,
And a jolly good fire to burn him.
Holloa, boys! holloa, boys! make the bells ring!
Holloa, boys! holloa boys! God save the King!
Hip, hip, hooor-r-r-ray!
very interesting history lesson especially if you are an USA Citizen…… we tend to change History for our own benefit and the 5th of November is a key day to remind myself of this perspective. I am Thankful to be able to research and learn History outside of the USA curriculum.
Another Day to be Thankful for 😀 PIGS !! I don’t have any here on my farm…but OMG they are YUMMY !! I mean who is not Thankful for BACON and even if you are a vegan you can at the least be thankful that there is Bacon out there to distract us meat loving carnivores.. keeps us from doing more harm. 2 pieces of Bacon is nearly as good as half a chicken….. so it tempers our meat eating greed. Pig is a very versatile meat and I just love making sausage. Today I am roasting Pork Carnitas for Enchiladas and burritos and Tacos ect for lunches. I mean YUM Pork !!
If you would like to try the recipe I use
Today I am Grateful for waking up… and again for so many reasons… LOL. I am lucky I get to wake on my own schedule with nothing to rush off to do, I get to call my BF then talk with my husband about the plans for the day, Check my Blood sugars Take my meds and make some breakfast all on my own schedule. I wake up and get to look forward to what I will be doing today.. today it is working on bears and then more crocheting.. believe me sometimes I dread it but most of the time I can convince myself to just keep moving forward through the mess. I wake up in a lot of pain of late but I have slept in a clean comfortable bed under a roof that protects me from the weather that I can call my own. I am Grateful that I have woken at all and for some reason I am still called to be here. I believe we have a purpose and we only leave when either the loss of us is a lesson others need more than what we can offer or that we no longer have anything to offer. I am VERY Grateful that I have something to offer to the world around me 🙂
It is day two of November and I actually really enjoy the practice of finding something to be Grateful for every day So yesterday I was SUPER Grateful for being able to purchase Food…….. there are so many reasons included in that statement.. I am grateful there is food to purchase, that we have such an incredible diversity of options to chose from, that we have competitive stores to chose to spend our money with, That we have the transportation capabilites to get Mangos in Oregon or just out of season items…. I am Grateful for the social services that pay for some of my food…… for the workers who day in and day out deal with super tough situations to help all that they can .. for the lobbiest and political system that made the services I use available for those that need it and fight to keep it available… I am grateful for the electricity that makes it so I can store my food and the Propane to be able to cook it. I am Grateful for acess to the internet to be able to find recipes and learn to cook new things broadening my knowledge and awareness of other cultures……… I am Grateful for the Farmers and Ranchers who devote their lives to producing the Food I am able to purchase and the workers they support…….. Food is good…
